What We Do – Services Offered by MFC
Project Consultation Services
Most people who are thinking of a renovation project may have a vision or a concept in mind, but may not be sure how to turn those ideas into a successful construction project. Miller Fine Carpentry (MFC) can help you plan your project, and will provide both a cost estimate and a proposed schedule to you without any obligation on your part.
MFC can help you determine the best approach for your project design, and assist with permitting requirements. We also advise on the pros/cons of different types of materials, and where you can purchase materials using MFC's contractor discount. MFC can also provide information on the methods and type of construction and discuss alternatives whenever possible.
Small Projects
Small projects can be considered to be projects executed without a formal design. Some small projects do not require a building permit, such as built-in cabinets, moldings and trim, or when windows or doors are being replaced. Other small projects, such as kitchen or bath renovations, often do require a building permit from the town where the property is located. In any case, MFC will work with the client to define the project and will provide a stamped drawing or sketch if the applicable building department requires it.
Design/Build Projects
With a project executed by the Design/Build method, MFC is responsible for the project design, building permits and for the overall construction of the project. This method generally reduces the time required for the overall project and allows the client to easily modify the design in order to meet their cost and timing objectives. MFC has provided Design/Build services for many clients; approximately half of the projects shown in our renovations/additions portfolio are Design/Build projects.
Fixed Price Construction Projects
MFC provides fixed price construction services based on the client's design plans. This is the traditional construction method whereby the client first must hire an architect to develop the project drawings and specifications. After the design has been finalized, the client, usually in conjunction with their architect, will hire a contractor to perform the actual construction work. MFC has worked with many area architects to successfully complete their client's project to their complete satisfaction. About half of the projects shown in the MFC renovations/additions portfolio were fixed price construction projects that were based on architectural drawings.
